YOUR WEDDING IN THE DANVILLE, VA AREA
I would be honored to officiate your wedding ceremony!
I have performed over 800 weddings as a bonded wedding officiant in the state of Virginia since 2005.
There is no waiting period to get married after obtaining your marriage license from a Virginia circuit court. Schedule permitting, I may be able to marry you the same day you get your license!
-
I offer civil and god-based-religious ceremonies
-
I also do vow renewals (not legally binding)
-
I support LGBTQ+ couples
I only use the ceremony script that comes from my book, Perform a Beautiful Wedding Ceremony in Minutes, linked on my Products page. When you schedule with me, we will discuss which parts of my ceremony script you want to include in your wedding.
Along with the general wedding ceremony, I can also include these ceremony scripts:
-
Recognition of those unable to attend your wedding
-
Tribute to those who have passed on
-
Acknowledgement of the wedding couple's children
-
Ring Exchange, with or without a blessing of the rings
-
Unity Candle or Sand Unity
-
Handfasting
(any supplies for the above scripts are the responsibility of the wedding couple to provide)
Payments:
My officiating rates are:
-
$20 non-refundable deposit to schedule me as your backup officiant. Scheduling me as your backup officiant means I will step in as your wedding officiant if the main officiant you've hired becomes unavailable. Though not required, having a backup officiant gives one more assurance that your wedding will proceed as planned. The $20 deposit will reserve your date and time on my calendar, and will be applied towards my officiating rate should you require my services on your wedding day. I will need at least 24 hours notice if you require me to step in as your officiant, and please note that I will be using my own ceremony script.
-
$100 performed at your home or chosen venue within Danville, VA city limits
-
$220 performed at your home or chosen venue outside Danville City Limits, up to 40 miles from the Danville Circuit Courthouse
-
$325 performed at your home or chosen venue outside Danville City Limits, 40-60 miles from the Danville Circuit Courthouse
If you cancel your wedding, your paid officiating rate will be refunded to the payment method you used, minus a $10 cancellation fee.
I accept payment online at the time of scheduling through Paypal via a link that will be sent to you after confirming your wedding date.
When I arrive, at the time of your wedding, I will need:
• Payment (for same-day wedding that wasn't pre-paid)
• Both copies of your marriage license and the envelope that came with them from the courthouse (to mail back the licenses)
• Both the bride & groom's photo ID
My favorite locations around Danville to get married:
Since the Virginia courts do not allow you to get married in the courthouse by a Justice of the Peace, couples are required to find their own location to have their wedding ceremony. You may choose to rent a venue, have it at your home or a friend's backyard, or in town at a park. Danville Parks and Recreation allows you to rent their picnic structures, but for ceremonies that are just the couple or accompanied by 1 or 2 guests, I can marry you at the public parks without the reservation. Below I have compiled a list of my favorite spots for the quick wedding ceremonies.
You may check the calendar below for tentative openings in my schedule, but this calendar is not a guarantee of availability. Please confirm your wedding date with me directly.
You may click on any event on this calendar to see what time block I am unavailable.
My Favorite Ceremony Locations in Danville, VA
I believe these areas around Danville are the best locations for your quick wedding ceremony, without renting a venue. Keep in mind, these are all public areas so there may be people wandering around or watching the ceremony. Some locations have covered areas, some do not. While I don't mind marrying you in the rain or snow, you may want to select a backup location if your favorite spot doesn't have any coverage from inclement weather. The covered structures I talk about below are available to rent from Parks & Recreation, which means if they are already reserved, they won't be available to stand under if it's raining on your wedding day.
Ballou Park
Ballou Park has many trees and rolling grassy hills, making it a picturesque place to have your wedding. It is a larger park so there are many grassy areas available to hold a quick ceremony. While it has numerous covered structures, they are full of un-moveable picnic tables, so aren't a great option to marry under during inclement weather. This park has a splash pad, playground, sport facilities, and barbeque areas, so it could be quite busy, especially on weekends. My favorite areas in Ballou Park have a flat grassy area with a background of trees.

Area next to the main parking lot, situated between site #1 & the senior recreation building

Grassy area next to site #8

Open lawn to the left of the splash pad, in front of the senior recreation building & main parking lot

Grassy & small paved area down a small hill from site #10
Camilla Williams Park
Camilla Williams Park is a grassy and treed park next to the Dan River at 700 Memorial Dr. Due to its proximity, you may see fishermen at the river's edge of this park. Though it has a playground on one end, it is a much smaller and less-busy park than Ballou, which may offer more privacy for your ceremony. There are 2 covered structures with picnic tables at this park. The large trees and peek-a-boo views of the river make a beautiful backdrop for photos.

Located on the West end of the park, this structure offers some standing space without tables for coverage from the rain

There are quite a few large trees near the river's edge that provide shade during the summer months
Anglers Park
Anglers Park is adjacent to the Dan River, much further East than Camilla Williams Park. It has soccer fields, bike trails, and a boat launch, which make it an active park that could complicate finding a private spot for your wedding ceremony, though its unique areas still make it a good contender.

If not in use, the boat launch could be a nice waterfront location for your ceremony

Before you reach the main parking lot, this wooden bridge crosses a marsh filled with vegetation that is home to ducks & other birds. The two outcroppings offer space out of the way for a small ceremony

Anglers park has one picnic structure. Though filled with tables, there is a path between them that provides space for a ceremony protected from rain

There are three sun shades off the main parking lot. While they will give a reprieve from the hot sun, they won't provide much protection from the rain
Abreu-Grogan Park
Abreu-Grogan Park is a small park along the Dan River. The park mostly consists of a boat launch dock, a kayak launch, and offers kayak & float rentals. This park makes the list of my favorite places because of the area that overlooks the river.

The West side of the park has a path to an overlook, which would be a great location for your wedding ceremony & photos
Union Street Bridge Overlook
The Union Street Bridge Overlook is a spot on the Riverwalk Trail that overlooks a low waterfall near the Union Street Bridge. There are benches, picnic tables and standing room. Located past the Nissan sales lot at 132 Union Street Bridge Rd.

Parking is available through the Nissan sales lot, next to the Riverwalk Trail

The overlook is a large open area with beautiful views of the bridge, river and waterfall
LOVE Locks sculpture
The LOVE Locks installation is located behind the farmer's market, at the Crossing at the Dan entrance to the Riverwalk Trail. Further along the trail is a covered area, a dog park and the walking bridge over the river.

On the back side of the LOVE sculpture is an area to place a lock to "lock in your love", which would be a memorable activity after your wedding ceremony

A narrow covered area could offer protection from the rain during your ceremony, but being located ON the walking path, means it might have lots of people passing close by
Main Street (JTI) Fountain
The fountain on main street is a popular spot for prom pictures. It is a beautiful background for a wedding ceremony, but is also next to a restaurant, so might have many spectators during peak meal times.

The fountain has benches & plenty of standing room around it, though the parking lot is small
